Vivienne Jolie-Pitt Begins Acting Career With 'Maleficent'
Vivienne Jolie-Pitt is living up to her name by starting her acting career at a young age. Walt Disney Studios recently announced that the 4-year-old will be acting alongside her mom, Angelina, in the upcoming film "Maleficent."
Vivienne will have a role as the young Aurora, or Sleeping Beauty- the target of Angelina's character's scorn. "Maleficent" has been creating quite a buzz among fans of both the Disney story and Jolie, and given the recent success of the re-imagined "Snow White" film, Walt Disney Studios may have another hit on its hands.
The film will tell the story of "Sleeping Beauty" from the perspective of the villainess, much in the way that "Wicked" tells the story of the "Wizard of Oz" from the Wicked Witch's viewpoint. Jolie plays the title character, and paparazzi have been eager to capture images from on set in London.
"The live-action film explores the origins of Disney's most iconic villain, Maleficent, and what led her to curse Princess Aurora in Disney's animated classic 'Sleeping Beauty,'" Disney said in a statement. Elle Fanning will portray the older Aurora in the film and have the majority of the role.
"Sleeping Beauty," as told by Disney, recounts the story of a young princess who is cursed at birth by Maleficent. Three good fairies protect her until her 16th birthday, when she is taken back to her parents after living in the woods. Along the way, she meets a handsome stranger and instantly falls in love, unaware that she is a princess and he the prince she was betrothed to at birth.
When the three good fairies take her back to the castle, Maleficent reappears and fulfills her prophecy, putting Aurora into a deep sleep until her true love can be found.
Jolie has revealed that she "loved" Maleficent when she was a child.
"She was my favorite," she told MTV in 2010.
The film is set to hit theaters in 2014.
