VMAs: Artists 'Thank God'
It’s that time again. The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards was held in Los Angeles, Calif., at the Nokia Theatre on Sunday.
Expected to dominate the awards was singer Katy Perry who led in nominations. Perry is currently No. 1 on the Billboard top 100 pop songs for her song “Last Friday Night” which depicts her reflecting on the previous night’s drunken excursion.
“Last Friday night, we went streaking in the park, skinny dipping in the dark. Then had a menage a trois...” Perry sings in the chorus.
With this song giving an indication as to what the people were celebrating, giving thanks to God for the creation of these songs would seem a little hard to grasp, but of course the VMAs are well-known and comfortable with controversy.
Among the artists that said the oh-so-famous line “I wanna thank God” were Nicki Minaj, who is No. 8 on Billboard hip-hop charts for her song “Super Bass,” Britney Spears, and Kanye West, for his collaboration with Katy Perry. Tyler The Creator, who accepted his award laced with profanity, was accompanied by his mother who was seen in the audience mouthing “Thank You Lord.”
