'Voices From the Womb' to Kick Off Campaign at US Capitol

"Voices From the Womb" will launch its national campaign by allowing members of Congress to witness, in the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., live ultrasounds performed on pregnant women, according to the campaign's website.

At 11 a.m. Thursday, in the Congressional Auditorium in the United States Capitol Visitor Center, "all 535 members will be personally invited to witness live ultrasounds on women who are in their first, second and third trimester of pregnancy," the website states.

"Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate will have the opportunity, for the first time, in the United States Capitol to 'hear' from the pre-born children of America."

The event is also open to the public.

The goal of the campaign, which is co-sponsored by The Christian Defense Coalition and The National Pro-Life Center, is to sway public and congressional opinion toward a pro-life stance. After the event in the capitol, "Voices From the Womb" will begin a national tour performing live ultrasounds throughout the country in places such as schools, churches and public events.

"We believe the Voices from the Womb project will expedite the crumbling of Roe v. Wade as America and her political leaders see the humanity of the pre-born child and the reality that life clearly begins at conception," said the Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition, in a statement.

"When Roe was decided in 1973, there was a real argument going on about the humanity of the pre-born child and when life begins. However, with the amazing scientific advances over the past 40 years in fetology, ultrasound technology and modern medicine, those arguments are obsolete and archaic. It is now clear that life and the humanity of the child begins at conception."

In light of modern advanced technology, “Voices From the Womb” organizers believe that now the world cannot deny the voice of the unborn, and say that two statements made by the Supreme Court in the Roe v. Wade decision can now be overturned.

The first: “… the judiciary, at this point in the development of man's knowledge, is not in a position to speculate as to the answer.”

Secondly, the statement “If the suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant’s case, of course collapses for the fetus’ right to life would then be guaranteed specifically by the (14th) Amendment,” can be overturned.

With the Roe v. Wade decision made nearly 40 years ago, both opinions are no longer applicable to a technologically-advanced America, organizers said.

“The court in essence was saying, when ‘life begins’ could only be determined by man’s knowledge. This is quite troubling because it based this fundamental question of the beginning of life not on timeless objective facts and moral law but on the subjective reality of man’s limited ability to learn and understand these facts.”

Brandi Swindell, founder and president of Stanton Healthcare, said the campaign is calling for America's political leaders to help protect the most vulnerable of our population.

"For the first time, our political leaders will have the chance to view firsthand the humanity of the child and work together to protect the weakest members of our society," she said.
