'Wake Up, Girls! Shin Shou' Air Date, Spoilers: Anime Idol Group Returns in New Installment

The upcoming fall anime season is ushering in yet another music-themed series as the Japanese anime "Wake Up, Girls! Shin Sou" premieres in October.

First announced at the Wake Up, Girls! Fiesta 2016 Super Live event held earlier this year, the upcoming series the much anticipated series is finally coming on air this fall and will feature returning voice actresses like Mayu Yoshioka, Airi Eino, Nanami Yamashita and Kaya Okuno who will be reprising their roles from the previous "Wake Up, Girls!" series.

"Wake Up, Girls!" is an original anime series born out of the collaborative efforts of the animation studios Ordet and Tatsunoko Productions. The series first aired in 2014 with 12 episodes and a pequel, titled "Wake Up, Girls! Shichinin no Idol." It was directed by Yutaka Yamamoto.

In 2015, the franchise released two follow up movies titled "Wake Up, Girls! Seishun no Kage" and "Wake Up, Girls! Beyond the Bottom."

The upcoming 2017 series is directed by Shin Itagaki, who previously worked on the 2016 anime adaptation of "Berserk" for the anime studio, Millipensee. Green Leaves is in-charge of scriptwriting, MONACA serves as music composer, and Miyuki Sugawara, the animation director of "Usakame," will handle the character designs.

"Wake Up, Girls!" also happens to be the name of the voice acting unit who provide the voices for the main characters.

The series tells the story of a tiny production company called "Green Leaves Entertainment," which is on the verge of going out of business. The company previously represented a wide range of talents that consisted of magicians, photo idols, fortune-tellers, and the like. In a last-ditch attempt to save the company from bankruptcy, the president decides to take a different approach and produce an idol group instead. Thus, Wake Up, Girls! was formed.

"Wake Up, Girls! Shin Shou" premieres on Monday, Oct. 9, late night at 2:05 a.m. JST on TV Tokyo and on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 11:30 p.m. JST on AT-X. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official site.
