'Walking Dead' Season 6 – The old and new are getting ready for war and the first 3 episodes are intense.

With everyone looking forward to the premiere of Season 6 of "The Walking Dead" on October 11th, AMC has released new photos that have the cast looking deadly serious. New cast members have joined "The Walking Dead" and the photos show them ready to battle with their biggest threat – the Wolves.

The photos released by AMC show Ross Marquand as Aaron and Lennie James as Morgan Jones. There are also episode stills that feature new cast member Corey Hawkins who dons the role of 'Heath' from the comic book. Merritt Wever from Nurse Jackie will be Dr. Denise Cloyd, again, a character from comic book. Another new member is Ethan Embry who plays Carter, who is a combination of some characters in the "Walking Dead" comics.

By the end of Season 5 of "The Walking Dead", the survivors are no longer just running away from the threat of the zombies. Even more than survival, the group now wants to reclaim the land that was once for the living. With this shift in focus, Season 6 will see a change in the group's attitude. They are now more determined to not just survive but prepare for war. This makes the group a very formidable one.

In Season 6, Alexandria's Safe Zone is no longer safe. Threats will come from outside and most heart-breaking – from the inside too. How will the group deal with betrayal from one of their own? They're fighting for their home and they will defend that at any cost, against any threat, even if that threat comes from within. The new people will be adding more drama and intrigue to the season.

The new character of Dr. Denise becomes important when one of the main cast is injured badly and her skills as a surgeon comes to the forefront. New character Carter will try to turn the community against Rick whereas Heath, like the comic book, is a supply-runner for Alexandria. He and Dr. Denise become romantically involved.

Showrunner Scott Gimple says, "The first three episodes are — we say every year, "Ah, it's so crazy" and everything, and it has been crazy — but the first three episodes this year and the things that we're doing are very big and very difficult, and we're pushing people hard, and in some ways I think we're going to be pushing the audience hard. I'm pretty excited and terrified about it."

Season 6 of "The Walking Dead" returns on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
