'Walking Dead' Spinoff News: 2 Seasons Ordered, Plot Details Revealed
The yet untitled spinoff series of "The Walking Dead" has reportedly received a two-season order from AMC just recently. The show's creator Robert Kirkman recently revealed some plot details of the show during the South by Southwest event.
One of the things he shared is where the spinoff series will fit in "The Walking Dead" universe. In terms of the timeline, the series will be set in "an earlier timeframe than the original show," according to a report in Cinema Blend. He did not want to call it a prequel despite this because "the entirety of the show is not going to take place before. It will eventually form a path running concurrently."
Earlier reports also say that the spinoff will not be connected to the original show except for the "zombie infested world." It said that the circumstances where the characters find themselves is quite different from the original one. It will be situated in another part of the U.S. and will show a different set of characters.

According to another Cinema Blend report, the story will revolve around two families and a loner as they deal with what's happening in their community. Sean Cabrera is father to Cody Cabrera, who is described as "a whip-smart and rebellious teenage son" and "the angriest kid in town." Nancy Tompkins is a single mom to Nick Tompkins, a "screwed up teenage son" and Ashley Tompkins, a "level-headed teenage daughter." The loner in the picture is Andrea Chapman, who is described as "a somewhat wilted flower child who has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage."
The story's setting is said to be somewhere in California which will be quite different from the original show. Kirkman also cited that the two shows will not have "any crossover-type events" that are so common in shared universe shows. He however said that they will have "connecting threads," noting that "there may be some things that are discovered in the companion show that haven't been discovered in the other show yet."
The show is expected to premiere sometime in summer 2015.
