Walmart vs. Costco: Where to Find the Best Deals
Which offers the better bargain? Walmart or Costco? Target or Sam's Club?
Vera Gibbons, host of Yahoo's "Financially Fit" series, researched the discount retailers and the warehouses to find out where to get the best deals on groceries, electronics, and more.
When it comes to produce, brand name sodas, frozen foods and cereals, Walmart and Target offer the lowest prices compared to the warehouse clubs, which have some of the "worst values," she said.
Gibbons also noted that neither Costco nor Sam's Club accepts coupons.
While families are advised to go to the discount retailers for groceries, the warehouse clubs may be the best place for getting a bargain on electronics. And if you buy a big TV or computers, you can easily earn back the membership fee with the savings.
Moreover, the warehouse clubs have generous return policies to keep their members happy.
For prescription drugs, while Walmart and Target offer competitive prices from 25 to 77 percent off drug store costs, Costco has the best deal, Gibbons found.
The best prices on high-end jewelry can also be found at warehouse clubs.
Walmart is the largest retailer in the world. There are more than 3,000 Walmart Supercenters and about 200 Walmart Neighborhood Markets in the U.S.
