Want a Windows 10 Smartphone for Only $150? Archos 50 Cesium Out in November
Archos, a French technology company which started manufacturing smartphones in 2013, is apparently going ahead of Microsoft in launching the first ever smartphone with Windows 10. The company is set to unveil a new range of affordable smartphones at the upcoming IFA 2015 in Berlin, and among the new devices they will showcase is the Archos 50 Cesium, a Windows 10 smartphone that will be available in the market by November.
According to a report in Phone Arena, the Archos 50 Cesium is the company's first Windows smartphone as most of their previous smartphone releases were all Android phones. The good news about this new device is that it will only sell for $150 in the U.S. or £99 in the U.K., a very low price for a Windows 10 device.
By today's smartphone standards, the Archos 50 Cesium cannot be considered a high-end or high-powered phone. Under the hood, its processor is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 with a speed of 1.1 GHz, and coupled with only 1 GB of RAM. Display-wise, it only has a 5-inch HD display with 1,280 by 720 pixels per inch resolution.
Its main rear-facing camera is 8-megapixels, while its selfie camera is only 2-megapixels. Internal storage is only 8 GB, but is expandable via microSD support. It has Bluetooth and LTE connectivity and has dual SIM capabilities as well. Battery capacity is only at 2,100 mAh.
A Tech Times report also provided additional details about the device. Its dimensions will be 147 by 72.5 by 8.5 millimeters or 5.8 by 2.9 by 0.33 inches. The device will also feature an Adreno 304 GPU or graphic processing unit, a loudspeaker, a microphone, a G-sensor and Audio and Video playback.
With no news or official announcement yet when Microsoft will release its Lumia phones with Windows 10, this may very be the first smartphone to be announced as running on Windows 10 Mobile.
A similar device with the same hardware specifications but this time running on Android 5.1 Lollipop will also be unveiled at the IFA 2015. Called the Archos 50e Helium, it will also cost the same as the Archos 50 Cesium.
