'War of the Planet of Apes' casting news: Gabriel Chavarria casted
"War of the Planet of Apes" is due for a July 14, 2017 release in the U.S. and a July 21, 2017 release in the U.K. Principal filming is to begin soon. In the anticipated war between humans and apes, Gabriel Chavarria has signed on to the human side. It is not clear what role he will be portraying.
A soccer and basketball player, Gabriel Chavarria debuted in the 2007 Hilary Swank film, "Freedom Writers" as Tito. His other film was "A Better Life". He is well-known for his lead role in the hit series "East Los High" on Hulu.com. He has been seen in other television shows such as Major Crimes, South Land, and Prime Suspect. He has also worked in a few commercials as well.
His latest film is "Low Riders" from Universal. His bagging a leading role in "War of the Planet of Apes" will further ease his entry into mainstream Hollywood.
Whether Andy Serkis will play Caesar through motion capture remains to be seen.
The men behind the camera are Matt Reeves and Mark Bomback. Matt Reeves, who has previously directed "Dawn of the Planet of Apes" in 2014 is set to direct the coming third installment while Mark Bomback is also back to work on the screenplay.
The previous installment, "Dawn of the Planet of Apes" was a huge success. The sight of Caesar, with a symbolic vermillion mark on his forehead, astride on a horse and charging forward to destroy the humans was awe-inspiring.
Caesar's last lines in the film had a foreboding of a coming war between humans and apes when he said, "Apes start war… and Human will not forgive." Both Caesar and Malcolm are victims of a situation that spiralled out of control, both don't want war but the war is inevitable. The ending of the second film serves as a lull between humans and apes and also as regret for what will ensue.
The title, "War of the Planet of Apes" itself points to a huge, action adventure film. It might also signal the end of the franchise.
As the film goes into production, a little bit of the plot might unfold. Until then, all we can do is speculate.
