'Warcraft' Movie News: Plot and Cast Details So Far

The big-screen adaptation based on the video game series "Warcraft," won't be in theaters until June 2016, but anticipation for the film is beginning to build up and rightly so. Having been in production since 2006, the movie has changed directors once. But now, with recent information releases, fans are hopeful that this is really it. A report in IGN puts together what is known about the movie so far, from its plot, its setting and its cast.

The movie's director, Duncan Jones, is said to be envisioning the film as some sort of origins story about the root of the conflict between the two races, the humans and the Orcs. According to the report, Jones wants to "show both sides of the conflict equally so that audiences will feel torn about which to root for." This apparently is also how a player feels when one plays the game. The report also said that the first director, Sam Raimi, had wanted to present only one side of the story but then decided to leave the project after Blizzard opposed his idea.

The report also presented what Jones said are his influences in making the movie. He pointed to "The Dark Knight" as a guideline for showcasing the "war" scenes in the film. As he wants the film to have a PG-13 rating, he said he needs to look for novel ways to show the horrors of violence. In terms of story complexity, Jones said that it will be a "mix between Game of Thrones and Avatar."
