Watch and Cry When a Football Player's Dad Home Early From Deployment Surprises Him on the 50-Yard Line (VIDEO)
When U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Joseph Martell returned early from five months of deployment in Afghanistan, his wife Julia was waiting for him at Spangdahlem Air Base. But their son Justin was playing in a football game in Brussels and had no idea. It was the perfect setup for a surprise, and they executed it perfectly.
The Martells, along with another couple, drove two hours to Justin's game at the International School of Brussels. Martell then dressed in the opponents' uniform, pads and all, and watched the game from the sideline.
Between the 3rd and 4th quarters, the officials called members of both teams to meet on the field to talk about sportsmanship. Martell lined up across his son, who didn't notice his father. And then he removed his helmet.
