'Wayward Pines' Season 2 News: Carla Gugino Talks About Dramatic Suicide Scene

After the dramatic ending of "Wayward Pines" Season 1, fans were welcomed back into the intriguing world of the series with a shocking surprise.

The premiere of "Wayward Pines" Season 2 saw a heartbreaking scene when Kate Hewson (Carla Gugino) decided to sacrifice herself. Upon realizing that the town was doomed, she cut her throat for the sake of the other townspeople.

Gugino recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what she felt about her final scene. She said that it was an honorable way for her character to die. She explained, "And I think the fact that it happens face-to-face with Hope Davis' character Megan is interesting, because they just have entirely different viewpoints of where they want the world to be and where the world is. It was certainly an intense and bold way to go. [Laughs] But I thought, when they presented me with the material, that it was interesting and made sense for where she's at emotionally."

Like the viewers, Gugino was sad to see her character go. She said that she enjoyed working with the cast, which is why she was unhappy to see her character's death. In addition, she said that she had invested a lot on her character, which made leaving hard to do.

She said, "I was interested in exploring how she becomes this perfect citizen on the surface who, underground, is doing a lot of work with the resistance. I would have loved to have seen what got her there, because her entry was so traumatic."

However, she said that while the executive producers asked her to come back for the whole season, she was already involved with another series called "Roadies" on Showtime. Because of that, she had to end her character in the season 2 premiere.

"Wayward Pines" season 2 airs on FOX every Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. EDT.
