'Wayward Pines' season 2 news: Renewed or not?

With the recent ending of "Wayward Pines" season 1, it is still unsure whether the series will see a renewal.

So far, there has been no announcement from FOX regarding the return of the series. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the series was not intended to feature additional material for another season. The finale ended with Ben Burke, played by Charlie Tahan, in a hospital before realizing that the town is now in a bad situation.

However, the series had a lot of success, gaining an audience of 3.9 million. Nevertheless, the excellent ratings still did not present news for a second season. According to Entertainment Weekly, show executive producer Chad Hodge explained that season 1 was the end of the series, not a cliff-hanger. The series was only planned for one season.

Several sources predict that if there will be a second season, the series will explore the idea of the First Generation since they have successfully gained control of the town. With the young generation in charge, the story is expected to present interesting plots. There were also speculations that Shyamalan is currently in discussion with Blake Crouch, the writer of the novel, for a renewal. If there will be a new season, it is expected to have a different vibe, as Shyamalan shared that he intends to take the project further with much integrity. However, they both admit that they cannot make the series work story-wise. Therefore, they are satisfied with leaving the project in high spirit.

Shyamalan said, "I knew where we were heading for the finale and so we could architecture the 10 episodes in that manner. So, I am happy to walk away, especially with such a wonderful reaction and all that stuff. But honestly, Blake and I do have an idea. We have an idea we've discussed. That's all I'll say."
