'Wentworth' Season 5 Spoilers, Air Date News: New Series Will Be Filled With Vengeance
Netflix's "Orange Is the New Black" is arguably one of the more popular series that tackles the lives of lady inmates in Litchfield. But for those who wish to see a grittier, harsher side to the concept, look no further than "Wentworth," which is about to get its fifth season. From the looks of it, it is going to be revolving around revenge.
In the season 5 teaser, Allie Novak (Kate Jenkinson) is seen mourning the death of her lover, Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack). Meanwhile, the culprit, Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) may be dying in this season, as the rest of the inmates rally behind Allie.
It is turning to be a depressing yet a seemingly justice-serving series, as Allie is about to avenge Bea's demise and make Joan suffer the consequences. What's worse is aside from the others helping Allie while revealing a chain that she may use to kill Joan, even the prison wardens want nothing to do with the scuffle, and they look the other way.
The fact that the teaser shows the words "Revenge will set them free" hints that Allie will, by all means, exact vengeance and judgment. It will only be a question of when and how, but it is going to be an inevitable scene.
With the death of one of the main characters, it was previously teased that this will open up the doors to new castings. Producer Jo Porter tells News, "While the shoes of Bea Smith will be hard to fill, with the start of season five the gates of Wentworth Correctional Facility will again open to a raft of potential new stories and characters."
It does not, however, lead to casting Liam Hemsworth, which was originally thought to be joining in, International Business Times has learned. It appears he may be busy planning for the future with girlfriend Miley Cyrus, although this has yet to be confirmed.
"Wentworth" season 5 returns on April 4, 8:30 p.m. ET on Showcase.
