Westboro Baptist Church Plans 'God Hates the Media' Tour
The Westboro Baptist Church is preparing to host a new protest, this time in Silicon Valley and against media outlets such as Facebook, Google, and Apple. The "God Hates the Media Tour" will begin on Aug. 12 and seek to promote awareness of the "sinful" role media plays in society.
"God hates the media in all its forms," a press release from the WBC said. "God did not set these social media networks in place to facilitate perverts pursuing their divers[e] filth; nor do they exist for pedophile grooming, spreading sodomite agenda, other wicked political propaganda or propagating mountains of false doctrine. On the contrary, all these media platforms have one purpose; to spread the gospel far and wide. Though you labor in vain to demonize and stop the words we speak; you only succeed causing more people to see, hear and be convicted."
The WBC claims to promote God's will for the world and has become famous for protesting the funerals of fallen soldiers and organizations. Churches and members of the general public have often attempted to prevent the WBC from protesting or those being targeted from hearing the WBC's words. There have been several clashes between the WBC and public, often caught on film.
This time, the cult will move from company to company, starting with Facebook and winding up at Reddit headquarters. The group has released information as to why it has chosen certain organizations to protest.
"Apple and many of its customers revere Steve Jobs as a creative genius and technology god. WRONG: he was a rich, proud fool who now inhabits hell. Truly, Steve Jobs was formed in his mother's womb to create these Apple products so that Westboro Baptist Church can use them today to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ," the WBC posted on one flyer.
In an interesting twist, the WBC will actually host a Reddit Ask Me Anything session on Aug. 10, just two days before it protests the same organization.
