WeWaited – Online Dating Service (Ministry) for Virgins

Recent studies show that 1 in 5 singles have dated someone they met online. While there are a number of Christian dating websites, there is one whose sole purpose is to unite people that choose to remain virgins until marriage.

The website, wewaited.com, formerly known as youandmearepure.com recently told The Christian Post that no other website promotes and offers a service with that kind of exclusivity.

Founder Leticia Colin, who remained abstinent before marriage explained, "The main drive for our virgin applicants to join our dating site is mainly the need to meet virgin people like themselves. They have expressed to us that no other website offers this type of service."

Although the prices vary according to region, the website is open to anyone in the world that is genuinely a virgin and only looking for a virgin. A sister website, weabstain.com is an alternative for those who were sexually active once but chose to abstain later.

"Our virgin members do not mind building friendships/relationships with other virgins or non-virgins as long as they are valued for their virginity (which we view as a gift from God) and for who they are as opposed to establishing friendships or relationships with someone based on sex. That is why most of them feel at home at our website," said Colin.

The website is a costly enterprise, she noted, and there have been many times when she and her husband, Jose Colin, almost gave up. But, she said, "something tells us to keep on standing firm."

"We take our website very seriously to the point that we consider it a ministry and we are taking the greatest virgin person in history, namely Jesus, as our role model," she highlighted. "We are literally praying for our website and anybody who visits us and joins us."

When it comes to ensuring that those who register are being honest, the couple has a system in place. Colin said she understands people's concerns about online dating "since there is not a 100 percent safe online venue." But she said her team makes sure to personally conduct basic verification for every applicant.

"When we first implemented [a screening system,] we lost about 95 percent of our members," she stated. "Checking for honesty is crucial in the selection of our virgin members. If someone is not honest with his basic personal information, then his statement of being a virgin is questionable."

The screening process can go from one minute to over an hour depending on the case. Colin added, "Many new applicants have asked us if we can relax our screening process, but we cannot if we want to offer a safer place for virgin singles."

She noted that there were cases where postings went up about "an 'experienced' woman who wanted to 'teach' several of our male virgins to be with a woman."

Although their membership is only for people 18 years and older, they are proud to promote abstinence to young adults as well, especially when studies show that about 48 percent of teens had sexual intercourse, 15 percent of whom had four or more partners during their life.

The founders stress that there is no shame in remaining abstinent. The Colins both remained virgins before marriage. They maintain that abstinence has helped them have a successful marriage.

Their hope is to create like-minded individuals who have a hard time meeting their choice partners. Currently they have more than 4,000 members.

"For a virgin person our website results are more convenient since without it, it would be a challenge for a virgin person to identify other virgins in the street by their looks only," said Leticia Colin. "Our website addresses that challenge and this is clearly an advantage for virgins resorting to use our online dating service."
