'Words cannot convey the sorrow': All 14 people killed in New Orleans terrorist attack identified

Nicole Perez

Nicole Perez, a 27-year-old mother, was teaching her 4-year-old son to read and do math before the attack on Bourbon Street during New Year's Day celebrations. The mother died on Wednesday morning.

Reuters reported last week that Perez worked at a deli in New Orleans, and she would sometimes bring her son to work, according to the victim’s former boss, Kimberly Usher. Perez’s former employer remembered that the mother and son sometimes played spelling games together at the deli.

Usher told the outlet that Perez had been a dedicated employee and a devoted mother to her son.

"She was just getting a new apartment, so her and her son were about to start their new life," Usher said. "And now that's no more."
