White Galaxy Nexus to Launch on Verizon April 5

The long-rumored white version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone is launching on Verizon on April 5, according to a device release schedule that was given to tech site Droid-Life.

The version to be released will include 16GB of internal memory and a gray variant is expected to launch together with the new white one.

Pictures of the white Galaxy Nexus began to surface at the beginning of this year, leading many to believe that Samsung was planning to release it sometime this year.

The new version of the smartphone is expected to retail at $199 with a 2-year contract.

The April 5 launch has not been confirmed by Verizon, but tech site PhoneArena feels the device should surface soon here in the U.S., since it has already been released in other parts of the world.

"It's important to note that these device launch schedules aren't iron clad- they're more like guidelines," wrote the site. "But they generally indicate the earliest device can launch. There's little reason to expect a delay in a phone that's already shipping in a similar form."

The Galaxy Nexus is currently available on Verizon in the U.S. for $299 with a contract and is expected to launch on Sprint in the coming months.

It was released on the carrier in Dec. of 2011.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus features a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display that is 1280 x 720 pixels, 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM for increased speed, a dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 CPU, a 5-megapixel rear camera, NFC (near-field communications), and 4G LTE connectivity.

The Verge called it the "greatest Android device to be released thus far."

Samsung and Google unveiled the Galaxy Nexus back in October of last year at the Mobile Unpacked event where Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich also made its debut.
