White PS4 Bundle With Destiny Game Will Also Be Sold Separately
Sony will launch a PS4 bundle that includes a white version of the console and a copy of the game Destiny on Sept. 9.
The white version will also be sold without the game, according to a new report from French site Game One.
"In Europe we're going to launch the bundle with Destiny on Sept. 9th," said Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida to French site Game One. "But after that, later this year, we're going to release the standalone white PS4 as well in Europe."
While a release date has been announced for the bundle, Sony still hasn't confirmed a launch date for the console without the game. That information should be available soon.
The PlayStation 4 launched at the end of last year and sold 1 million units just 24 hours after its release in the U.S. and Canada. The news delighted executives at Sony, who placed big hopes in the console to kick-start a revival of its consumer electronics business.
The system is powered by an eight-core X86 AMD "Jaguar" CPU and a 1.84 Teraflop AMD Radeon graphics engine. It also has 8GB of GDDR5 memory and will use a hard drive for storage instead of SSD. Like the PS3, the PS4 has a Blu-ray drive that can also play DVDs and will be backwards compatible with PS3 games, and eventually will be able to play PS and PS2 titles, according to Sony.
The official release date for Destiny will also be on Sept. 9. The game is an online multiplayer action role-playing first person shooter that takes place in a mythic science open world setting. It is developed by Bungie and is published by Activision.
