Whitney Houston Died Facedown in Scalding Hot Water, Coroner Says

The final autopsy report for singer Whitney Houston was released Wednesday, giving mourners of the late star new details about the last moments of her life.

The report revealed the Grammy-winning artist died face down in a foot of "extremely hot water."

The singer was found submerged in her Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel room last month by her personal assistant, who had stepped out of the room to pick up items for the singer from Neiman Marcus.

According to the report, Houston had complained of a sore throat and decided to take a bath prior to attending her mentor Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy award party. When Houston's assistant returned to the hotel room, the singer was lying face-down and unresponsive in the hotel room bathtub.

Investigators discovered a small spoon with a white substance in the bathroom where the star died, but did not test the powder to determine if it was drugs.

Two weeks ago, the singer's toxicology report was made public with the Los Angeles Coroner's Office concluding that Houston had used cocaine "not probably too much before she collapsed."

According to Dr. Drew Pinsky, who examined the final autopsy report for CNN, Houston died with a "moderate level" of cocaine in her system, which was not toxic.

Benadryl, Flexeril, Xanax, and marijuana were also found in the singer's system and the mix of drugs combined with years of heavy substance abuse are what likely caused the singer to lose consciousness and accidentally drown in the water.

Kristy McCracken of the Beverly Hills Police Department wrote in Wednesday's report that Houston "possibly overdosed on a narcotic substance, prescription medications, over the counter medications and alcohol."

During her career Houston was candid about her drug use, particularly in a 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey. The singer told Oprah that her drug of choice had been marijuana laced with cocaine and that her drug use started getting excessive following the birth of her only daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

"I had Krissy, it started getting heavy," she told Winfrey.
