Whitney Houston Movie Directed By Angela Bassett In The Works
Whitney Houston's biopic is coming to the small screen next year. Houston, the 48-year-old recording artist and actress, died in 2012. Now Lifetime is ready to release a film based on her life, which will be directed by actress Angela Bassett.
"Whitney Houston chronicles the headline-making relationship between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model, and singer, songwriter Bobby Brown - from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity, to their courtship and tumultuous marriage," a statement released by Lifetime reads. "Throughout it all, difficulties followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Whitney's meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both."
Bassett, Houston's co-star in the 1995 film "Waiting To Exhale" spoke about her plans to direct the film which is tentatively titled "Whitney Houston."

"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story," Bassett said in a statement released by Lifetime.
"Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."
While it is unclear who will be cast in the film just yet, actresses Jennifer Hudson and Halle Berry were rumored to be considered last year, according to previous reports from The Urban Daily. Actress Meagan Good previously told Vibe Vixen that Houston was open to seeing a biopic on her life unfold.
"I want to do Whitney Houston's life story. I think that would be an incredible story to do," Good said in an interview before Houston's death. "I talked to Whitney a little bit about it, and she's open to it, so I want to see what happens with that. Hopefully, in the very, very near future."
