Whitney's Mother Cissy Unhappy with Burial Plans
Whitney Houston's mother Cissy is objecting to plans for her late daughter to be buried in Newark, N.J., where she grew up.
Cissy, along with Houston's cousin, Dionne Warwick, are insisting that the tragic singer be buried in Atlanta, where they believe that she was most always happiest, according to TMZ.
The new information follows reports that 48-year-old Houston's body was transported from Beverly Hills, Calif., where she died to Newark, N.J., where she was born, as extended family members had made arrangements for her funeral service to take place at New Hope Baptist Church.
"Michael Jackson did not want to be buried in New Jersey, and Whitney did not want to be buried in New Jersey," a source told TMZ.
Houston was first discovered at the same church and some family members believe it is what she would have wanted, although Cissy believes Atlanta is more ideal.
Houston, a mother of one, was found dead in her hotel room bath tub allegedly after downing a cocktail of prescription drugs, which sources suspect may have included anti-anxiety drugs Xanax, Lorazepam and Valium.
Houston's 78-year-old mother Cissy described the depth of her tragic loss, which sources say has left her shattered.
"We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney. This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends," Cissy said in a recent statement.
Houston's ex-husband Bobby Brown also spoke of the tragedy, which some have tried to partially blame on him.
"I am deeply saddened at the passing of my ex-wife, Whitney Houston. At this time, we ask for privacy, especially for my daughter, Bobbi Kristina. I appreciate all of the condolences that have been directed towards my family and I at this most difficult time," Brown said in a statement.
