On Nov. 22, Trump nominated Scott Turner, an alumnus of the first Trump administration, to serve as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in his forthcoming administration.

In a statement announcing his personnel decision, Trump identified Turner as the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during his first term. He described how, in this capacity, Turner helped to “lead an Unprecedented Effort that Transformed our Country’s most distressed communities” and oversaw “16 Federal Agencies which implemented more than 200 policy actions furthering Economic Development.”

Turner, who previously played in the National Football League and served in the Texas House of Representatives for two terms, is an associate pastor at the Texas-based megachurch Prestonwood Baptist Church.

After Trump left office, Turner established the Community Engagement & Opportunity Council, which operates Learning Labs described as “Christ-centered reading enhancement programs for Kindergarten through 5th grade students” that encourage the children to “have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ” and teach them Bible verses as they work to help the pupils gain the reading comprehension skills needed to read at grade level.
