Who has Trump picked for his cabinet? Here are 12 of his nominees
Jay Bhattacharya
In a Nov. 26 statement posted on Truth Social, Trump announced Dr. Jay Bhattacharya as his nominee to lead the National Institutes of Health. “Dr. Bhattacharya will work in cooperation with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to direct the Nation’s Medical Research, and to make important discoveries that will improve Health, and save lives.”
After identifying Bhattacharya as “a Professor of Public Health Policy at Stanford University, a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economics Research, and a Senior Fellow by courtesy at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, Stanford Freeman Spogli Institute, and the Hoover Institution,” Trump highlighted Bhattacharya’s role as co-author of the Great Barrington Declaration.
Trump characterized the Great Barrington Declaration as “an alternative to lockdowns proposed in October 2020.” The document, signed by concerned citizens, doctors and scientists from around the world, urged governments to end the lockdowns imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, warning of their “devastating effects on short and long-term public health.”
The Great Barrington Declaration called for implementing policies allowing those who do not face a high risk of death from COVID-19, specifically young people, to go about their lives as normal while encouraging the elderly who faced a higher risk of death or serious illness from the virus to quarantine.
Bhattacharya faced censorship from social media giants due to his endorsement of a policy that ran contrary to the established consensus at the time, as revealed by the Twitter Files published by Elon Musk when he took over the platform now known as X.
“Together, Jay and RFK Jr. will restore the NIH to a Gold Standard of Medical Research as they examine the underlying causes of, and solutions to, America’s biggest Health challenges, including our Crisis of Chronic Illness and Disease,” Trump concluded. “Together, they will work hard to Make America Healthy Again!”
