Tulsi Gabbard
In an X post published Wednesday, Trump announced his selection of Tulsi Gabbard to serve as the director of National Intelligence. First elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District as a Democrat in 2012, Gabbard secured reelection three times before retiring to run for president ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
Gabbard has emerged as a staunch opponent of interventionist foreign policy and became an increasingly vocal critic of her own party after ending her unsuccessful presidential bid. Before leaving Congress, Gabbard introduced a bill requiring doctors to provide care for babies who survive botched abortion attempts and legislation that would prohibit trans-identified male athletes from competing in women’s sports.
Gabbard left the Democratic Party in 2022 and endorsed Trump’s reelection bid. She officially joined the Republican Party last month.

Trump highlighted Gabbard’s career in the Armed Services when touting his pick, illustrating how “for over two decades, Tulsi has fought for our Country and the Freedoms of All Americans.” According to Trump, “As a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties — She is now a proud Republican!”
Trump expressed confidence that “Tulsi will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our Intelligence Community, championing our Constitutional Rights, and securing Peace through Strength.”
