Why I Call It Murder
I want to briefly revisit the Saddleback forum that took place between Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain. One of the most important questions asked by Pastor Rick Warren was when should an unborn child receive rights as a human being.
To recap; Sen. McCain answered that an unborn child receives rights "at conception". Senator Obama stated that the answer to that question is "above his pay grade"; I personally believe every moral decision is above our pay grade as humans.
Because of my strong conviction to my faith I am unapologetically pro-life. I believe that a baby should be considered a human being at conception. Actually based on the Bible, it probably is before conception. God told Jeremiah that "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee" (Jeremiah 1:5). Obviously that is something that we couldn't even begin to regulate.
These types of decisions are well above anyone of our "pay grades" which is why Christians are to lean on the authority of scriptures. The Bible shows us that life begins at conception; I believe that after conception our choices cease.
I also believe that anyone who shares the view that life begins at conception has an obligation to speak out against the horrible and barbaric practice that we have allowed to take place in this country since 1973. I believe that people have a certain amount of choice with what they do with their bodies. I said a certain amount because we even limit what an individual can do to their own bodies. In most places around the country suicide is illegal. If we can tell someone not to take their own life why is it ok for them to end the life of a child?
Proverbs 6:16-23 says that God "hates" hands that shed innocent blood. I cannot think of any more innocent life than an unborn child. Since 1973 when Roe vs. Wade was passed into law, over 40million babies have been legally murdered. On the average 4,000 infants a day are killed here in the US.
Let's look at why abortions Are Performed in the US*:
The overwhelming majority of all abortions, (95%), are done as a means of birth control. Only 1% are performed because of rape or incest; 1% because of fetal abnormalities; 3% due to the mother's health problems.
Reasons Women Choose Abortion (U.S.)
• Wants to postpone childbearing: 25.5% • Wants no (more) children: 7.9% • Cannot afford a baby: 21.3% • Having a child will disrupt education or job: 10.8% • Has relationship problem or partner does not want pregnancy: 14.1% • Too young; parent(s) or other(s) object to pregnancy: 12.2% • Risk to maternal health: 2.8% • Risk to fetal health: 3.3% • Other: 2.1%
Should these be considered valid reasons to kill an unborn child?
I am amazed at how we, as a country, maintain a welfare system that helps make provision for people who cannot provide for themselves. We give away millions of dollars in aid around the world. PETA even fights for the rights of animals. But why aren't more people fighting for the unborn child? Why is it that the people who protest about the treatment of dogs and cats, or who hold huge rallies to save the planet aren't more boisterous in speaking out against the murder of unborn babies?
To take this a step further, not only do we allow for pre-born babies to be murdered early in a pregnancy, we even allow late term abortions. In most late term abortions the mother's labor is induced, the physician performing this procedure pulls the baby's head out of the mother, then injects saline solution in to the baby or simply decapitates the child. How can we think think that this is ok with God? Do we not believe that at some point we will be held accountable for allowing this to be legal? Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap (Galatians 6:7)
I implore anyone that has a heart to defend those who cannot defend themselves to rise up and let your voices be heard. Let's end the barbaric murder of the unborn child in the US.
In the book of Genesis when Cain killed his brother Abel, God tells Cain that Abel's blood was crying out from the ground (Genesis 4:10). I can just imagine what the sound of the cries of 40 million unborn babies must sound like to God.
