Why is Sif not in 'Thor: Ragnarok'? Jaimie Alexander Explains
"Thor: Ragnarok" has hit theatres worldwide. While Mark Ruffalo's the Hulk joins the god of thunder in this flick, Lady Sif, who has been present in previous films, was notably absent for this adventure.
Jaimie Alexander, who portrayed the Asgardian warrior in preceding "Thor" films, revealed why Sif is missing in "Ragnarok."
Speaking to Yahoo Movies, Alexander, who also stars in NBC's crime drama series "Blindspot," admitted that her absence in the latest "Thor" movie was due to conflicts in shooting schedules.
"I was asked, but the timing of when they were going to shoot and when Blindspot was gonna shoot — it was pretty much the same time," Alexander told the publication.
She admitted that she tried to make it work. But it was a rather impossible task mainly because "Ragnarok" was filmed across the world, in Australia.
The actress continued, "I was hoping for more of a notice from [the studio] so I could make it work, but it was a short notice thing. They called and said, 'Hey, by the way, would you come do this?' I said there is no way I can make that work that fast."
The Taika Waititi-directed "Thor" film, which is hailed the best and funniest by far, featured none of the original film's earthlings — Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, or Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig
It does, however, feature newcomers Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, who is also an elite warrior like Sif, Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, and Cate Blanchett as Hela, the goddess of death.
Chris Hemsworth stars as the titular character alongside his on-screen brother Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
Critics have lauded the film for the newbies' performances, its witty humor, its musical score, and its overall feel, which many allude to an '80s video game.
"Ragnarok" hits theatres in the U.S. on Nov. 2.
