Will and Jada Smith Hold Public Brunch Date to Squash Split Rumors
Following reports that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett’s marriage was in trouble, the Hollywood couple has been seen together smiling and enjoying each other’s company at a happy brunch date.
The pair were spotted laughing together and were “happy and normal” at Bob Morris’ Beach Café in Malibu Wednesday. The couple continued their public date as they went houseware shopping at a local shopping center.
"They were laughing and being cutesy – they seemed to be getting along just fine," an onlooker has reported to People Magazine. "It sounds cliché, but they were just like ordinary people. They seemed really nice."
Their brief appearance seems to contradict rumors that they were headed for a separation as reported online Tuesday by In Touch Weekly magazine.
According to In Touch Weekly Smith had decided to separate, citing an unnamed “insider” as its source. Since the report was published, rumors of the separation have gone viral.
It had previously been reported in various press agencies that Will had grown suspicious of Pinkett, and in particular that she was having an affair with Marc Anthony.
The Hollywood couple released a statement Tuesday denying rumors of a split or impending divorce.
“Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false,” they said in a statement. “We are still together, and our marriage is intact.”
Karyne Tencer, Jada’s rep, confirmed on Tuesday that all rumors regarding Marc Anthony and Jada were false: “Completely untrue. As for [the reports of a split between] Will and Jada, I’m not commenting on their personal life.”
Will Smith’s son, Trey, also took to his Twitter account: “Let me just say . . the rumors need to stop. Will and Jada aren't getting divorced, #ItsAllLies.”
The couple married in 1997 and has two children together: daughter Willow, who is a singer and actress, and son Jaden, a songwriter, rapper, actor, and dancer.
