Will 'Sleepy Hollow' Season 3 cast off the dark mood and enter the fun zone?

After a smashing Season 1, the second season of "Sleepy Hollow" fell flat. It dragged on with a sombre tone. That's when the creators thought of infusing some fun into the third season to revive it. They also thought that a new showrunner and the exit of "Headless" just might do the trick.

With co-creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci and new showrunner, Clifton Campbell, who was involved with "The Glades", Fox CEO Dana Walden aims to change the basic feel and storyline of "Sleepy Hollow".

At the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, Walden commented to TV Line on the change she wanted. saying, "What we asked for [in Season 3] was a bit of a return to the storytelling model of the first season — a bit more of the fun instead of such a deep mythology that got a little bit dense."

Clifton Campbell tells TVGuide, "There won't be any Headless this year." This will enable them to experiment more with the show. The changes, he adds, "all starts with the introduction of our new big bad and will take us into a very interesting device which will allow us to see a somewhat more compelling, but more personal threat to both Abbie and Crane"

No "Headless" would definitely mean less of those thick and foggy mythological concepts to digest. That out of the way, Ichabod and Abbie will find new fun ways to connect while solving the puzzle. The newcomers, Shannyn Sossamon and Nikki Reed will be playing Pandora and Betsy Ross respectively. Thus the show will now focus on the core characters of Abbie and Ichabod and Jenny.

Zach Appelman, a fan favourite, will also be back as Joe Corbin. Joe and Jenny will form a team and help Ichabod and Abbie in their quest to solve the mysteries.

Of these additions, Campbell tells TVGuide that Jenny and Joe are going to investigate things that are going to help Abbie and Crane. "It allows Jenny and Joe to be more operative and on their feet in their support and help of Abbie and Crane and fills out the gang in a much more interesting, emotional way." Campbell ended.

These changes should be a positive for the third run of "Sleepy Hollow" which returns on October 1 on FOX.
