Will Smith an 'Egomaniac,' Says 'Fresh Prince' Aunt (VIDEO)
The actress who played Will Smith’s aunt on “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” has knocked the star actor for being an “egomaniac.”
Janet Hubert, who played the original Aunt Viv in the television series, reportedly refused to attend a reunion of the show’s cast scheduled last week.
“I will never do anything with an (expletive) like Will Smith,” said Hubert, according to TMZ. “He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up.”
The actress continued, “This constant reunion thing will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology, which he doesn’t know the word.”
Former cast mates of “Fresh Prince” James Avery, Karyn Parson, Alfonso Riberio, and Tatyana Ali met with Smith at a luncheon last week benefiting a Parsons charity called Sweet Blackberry.
The famed sitcom aired for six years and saw 148 episodes, and ended the same year Smith starred in “Independence Day” in 1996. The luncheon was the first known reunion of the show’s cast.
Smith posted a photo of himself with the group, writing, “Got the Holiday season started right with a ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ reunion… there’s nothin’ like spending Holidays with fam!”
Also missing from the group picture was Joseph Marcell who played the sarcastic butler Geoffrey, as well as Hubert’s replacement, Daphne Reid, who also played Aunt Viv.
TMZ reported that Hubert is “still upset with the way she was fired from the show.” The actress was replaced in 1993.
In a radio interview the same year, the Atlanta Journal quotes Smith telling a local radio station that Hubert considered him “the antichrist.”
“She said once, ‘I’ve been in the business for ten years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.’ No matter what, to her, I’m just the antichrist,” said Smith.
