Will Smith Angry at Kardashian Comparisons
Will Smith does not want to have his family compared to the Kardashians.
Smith, the 44-year-old actor and father to budding entertainers, 14-year-old son Jaden and 12-year-old daughter Willow, shut a reporter down who tried to get his son to compare the two families. While the Smiths are known for their acting and musical prowess, the Kardashians came into fame by Kim appearing in an adult film, and through the family appearing on reality television shows.
"'So how do you think your life is similar or un-similar to people's names in Calabasas,'" the elder Smith said, repeating a Vulture magazine reporter after cautioning his son not to answer the question. "For our family, the entire structure of our life, our home, our business relationships – the entire purpose is for everyone to be able to create in a way that makes them happy."
Although Smith did not repeat the Kardashian name in his explanation, he made it clear that his family does not seek fame in the same way as the reality television stars.
"We are trying to put great things into the world; we're trying to have fun, and we're trying to become the greatest versions of ourselves in the process of doing things we love," Smith told Vulture. "So the idea of fame or exploitation or orchestrating the media is sometimes even less desirable for us."
While the elder Smith does not seem ready to entertain comparisons between his family and the Kardashians, his son has made headlines for reportedly dating the Kardashians' half sister, Kylie Jenner.
Last March, Jenner, 15, and Smith, 14, were spotted on an outing that was supervised by the Smith patriarch. Smith and Jenner dined at a sushi restaurant in London called Nobu with the 14-year-old's father watching from a safe distance, according to Perez Hilton.
Although Smith did not call Jenner his girlfriend, the half-sister of reality television star Kim Kardashian did receive another title from him. The young Smith explained being photographed with Jenner in multiple locations to Wonderland Magazine earlier this year.
"I was in LA, we were all hanging out. Then I went to New York and she came too, and then she came here and surprised me, so that's pretty baller," Smith told the magazine. "She's one of my best friends. It's pretty awesome."
