William and Kate Make First Public Appearance Since Prince George Born
William and Kate made their first joint appearance since the birth of Prince George. The new parents attended a marathon on the island of Anglesey, where they currently reside and left baby George at home for the event.
"Initially the Duchess wasn't going to attend, but she was also keen for the chance to thank the people of Anglesey herself for the warmth and hospitality they have shown her and the Duke," a source told the Daily Mail.
Those at the marathon were thrilled by the surprise appearance of Kate, and were eager to welcome her with open arms. She has been a regular resident ever since marrying William and moving to the island where he is posted as a Royal Air Force Search and Rescue pilot. The couple will soon be leaving, though, as William's duties come to an end and they move to their official residence at Kensington Palace.

"The Duchess will join The Duke in meeting a number of the runners and their families and a selection of volunteers involved in the administration of the race before The Duke officially starts the Ultra Marathon," a statement from Kensington Palace read. "The Duke and Duchess will not take Prince George to the event."
The couple will next appear at a formal even on Sept. 12, when they attend the Inaugural Tusk Conservation Awards in London. It's for a cause near and dear to Prince William's heart, as he has been a known supporter and advocate of the elephants in Africa.
Prince George's nursery is actually decorated in a safari theme, possibly as homage to William's adoration of the African landscape.
"I'll have toy elephants and rhinos around the room," William said in a CNN special, "Prince William's Passion: New Father, New Hope." "We'll cover it in, you know, lots of bushes and things like that. We'll make him grow up as if he's in the bush."
