Willie Nelson Memoir to Be Released Nov. 13
Singer-songwriter Willie Nelson has announced the release date for his memoir, "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die," for Nov. 13, 2012.
One of the most recognized artists in country music, 79-year-old Nelson's highly anticipated memoir is said to include never-before-told stories from the singer's life, including personal beliefs, music, family, politics, Texas, and of course, his controversial favorite past time- smoking marijuana.
According to a news release, "Roll Me Up" will also include contributions from family and friends as well as artwork by Nelson's son Micah, according to the Associated Press. Author, musician, and friend of Nelson's Kinky Friedman, who included a forward, wrote the book.
On Twitter, Nelson's fans sounded off about their excitement for the Nov. 13 release date.
"OK, this is awesome," wrote Josh, while The Boot posted, "Willie Nelson is 'rolling' out unheard stories from his outstanding life in his upcoming memoir."
Nelson first released an autobiography in 1988 and has published several books covering a range of topics since, including 2002's "The Facts of Life: and Other Dirty Jokes."
The singer's fifth book and first fictional work, "A Take Out of Luck," was co-authored by Mike Blakely and published in 2008.
A Texas native, Nelson is well known for using a variety of different music styles to create a distinct country music sound. Some of his hit songs include "Funny How Time Simply Slips Away," "Hello Walls," "Pretty Paper," and "Crazy," among many others.
During the mid 1980s, Nelson was a member of the country group The Highwaymen that included superstars Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson.
In addition to being an author, poet, activist, and singer, Nelson is a major liberal and a co-chair of the advisory board of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, which favors the legalization of marijuana.
Nelson has been married four times and has seven children. Today, he lives in Maui, Hawaii in a community where all the homes only use solar power.
