Willow Smith New 'Do Earns Praise From Fans
Willow Smith's latest hairstyle made waves online after the singer was spotted out near her home in Calabasas, Calif. on Wednesday.
Known for making shocking changes to her hair, from shaving it to adding pink and green dye, the "Whip My Hair Back And Forth" singer now has an Afro, according to the Daily Mail. Smith was photographed walking with a friend when she debuted the longer frizzed curls on Jan. 13.
On Twitter, Smith's fans are loving her newest hairstyle this week, including Alexis who wrote, "Cute twist out! Willow Smith debuts new Afro."
The longer, black hair is an abrupt departure from Smith's hairstyles of the past, including when she shocked fans after shaving her head completely bald. Smith has also dyed her hair a variety of colors in recent months. However, the teen's famous mom, Jada Pinkett Smith, defended her unusual hairstyle choices.
"This subject is old but I have never answered it in its entirety. And even with this post it will remain incomplete," Pinkett Smith posted to Facebook in 2012. "The question why I would let Willow cut her hair. First the 'let' must be challenged. This is a world where women, girls are constantly reminded that they don't belong to themselves; that their bodies are not their own, nor their power or self-determination. I made a promise to endow my little girl with the power to always know that her body, spirit, and her mind are her domain."
The 42-year-old actress went on to call out feminine trends and what is important to her daughter.
"Willow cut her hair because her beauty, her value, her worth is not measured by the length of her hair," Pinkett Smith wrote.
Smith herself defended her choices in her 2012 single, "I Am Me."
"Days pass I'm trying to find who I really am," the teen sings. "I've been looking people don't like the way I dress. I dyed my hair and it's not just vanity. Your validation is not that important to me."
