Windows 10 Mobile Removes PDF Reader as Microsoft Edge Adds Ad Blocker
Microsoft will stop supporting PDF Reader on Windows 10 Mobile later this year. Meanwhile, Microsoft Edge now supports AdBlock and AdBlock Plus extensions.
Windows 10 Mobile users have reported receiving notifications on their PDF Reader screen saying it will no longer support the software beginning July 1, according to WindowsReport.com. To replace PDF Reader, users can try third-party apps or use the company's very own Edge browser, which has the functionality of opening PDF files and other documents.
Those going for the latter, however, might find that the browser does not currently support PDF printing or putting two pages side by side. These missing features might come as a future update though as Microsoft has been steadily bringing improvements to the browser, for instance the recently added Google WebM support and Grammarly.

Speaking of which, the company has recently made popular Chrome and Firefox ad-blocking extensions Adblock and AdBlock Plus available to Edge users. The two browser extensions are among the most-requested features for Edge and were first announced to arrive to the browser about two months ago. As with its versions for other browsers, Adblock and AdBlock Plus for Edge allows users to block ads or control the type of ads to block and whitelist specific sites.
Users can get the AdBlock and AdBlock Plus extensions from the Windows Store. Once installed, users need to restart the browser in order to set it up. However, those interested in using them need to be in Microsoft's Windows Insiders preview or testing program. The extensions need users to have build 14291 on their desktop to work, according to Slash Gear.
For those who aren't part of Windows Insiders, Microsoft will release AdBlock and AdBlock Plus to the rest of Edge's users in the summer. The extensions will become available with the Anniversary Update for Windows 10.
