Windows 9 Release Date, Latest News: Early Build Sneak Peak on Sept. 30, Final Build Release Coming 2015

When it comes to mobile operating systems, the iOS and the Android are still two of the best known in the market. Microsoft has their own OS as well but are separate for the tablets and for the smartphones – Windows RT for tablets, and the Windows Phone OS.

It can be pretty confusing with Microsoft's different operating systems for different devices with the inclusion of Windows 8 for desktop PCs. However, it seems that Microsoft is seeking to combine the operating system for tablets and smartphones into one.

Enter Windows 9, an operating system from combining Windows RT and the Windows Phone OS. The operating system is slated to come out sometime in 2015 but an early build of the upcoming OS could be coming out in an event on Sept. 30. The details regarding the event however are still undisclosed.

As for the title of the operating system, Windows 9 doesn't seem to hold much ground now as Microsoft is planning to simply call their latest operating system "Windows."

Microsoft's latest commercials for the Lumia 930 testifies to this as the commercial doesn't even mention the term "Windows Phone" at all. What's more, the commercial simply refers to the operating system as "Windows."

The commercial isn't the only evidence, as HTC's newest Windows-run One M8 smartphone isn't even called a Windows Phone. Simply, it's called the HTC One M8 for Windows.

Microsoft's numbering scheme has always been around since the earliest OS builds, with titles like Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 7, and Windows 8. With the upcoming Windows 9, it seems the scheme won't matter anymore.

Instead of releasing big new operating systems, Microsoft plans to simply release continuous updates for the upcoming Windows 9.
