Windows Phone 7 Apps Marketplace Now Live

Microsoft has officially launched its retooled web-based platform, Windows Phone Marketplace.

This latest redesign for the application, along with the upcoming "Mango" software update, enables the Window Phone to compliment users’ growing content needs. The new online Marketplace storefront now sports a sharper-looking app hub that will pleasing to the eye.

Windows Phone Marketplace went live yesterday. This version, 7.5., will gradually make its way to owners of existing Windows Phone's. The company says it doesn't want these users to encounter any technical issues as the app becomes more widespread. Mango will also add over 500 tweaks and features to the Windows Phone 7 platform.

The Windows Phone Marketplace web portal currently features more than 30,000 apps ready for download. Applications are organized into one of 16 categories. The main page will allow users to browse all applications by featured, free, top or new categories.

Games will now appear separate from the apps and be split up into one of 14 different categories. Users will get to choose a host of options when looking up whatever game or app they may come upon: the app icon, price, a rating, description, screenshots and reviews.

After purchasing an app or game from the web store, users can choose to receive it on their Windows Phone hardware via e-mail or text message. App favorites and suggestions can then be shared through Facebook, Twitter or e-mail.

The redesigned Windows Phone Marketplace will track users' app and game history. Should they lose already purchased apps or games, users will be able to reinstall them free of charge.

The online Windows Phone Marketplace is now available in 35 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States.
