Wladimir Klitschko vs Tyson Fury 2 Rematch Fight News: Fury ends Klitschko's nine and half year title streak with unanimous decision victory
Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury ended Wladimir Klitschko's nine-year championship reign on Saturday night in Düsseldorf, Germany.
According to a report by Scott Christ of Bad Left Hook, the 27-year old Englishman scored an upset over "Dr. Steelhammer" via a unanimous decision verdict with a tally of 115-112, 115-112, and 116-111. The loss marks the first one in Klitschko's record since 2004, when he went up against American Lamon Brewster for the then vacant WBO heavyweight title.
The bout remained close all throughout the 36 minutes of action, but it was Fury's defense through use feints and movement that gave him the slight edge, which on the other hand, gave Klitschko a tough time in the ring.
In another report by The Associated Press, Fury attributes his success to his fighting roots that go way back to his ancestors' Irish-Gypsy heritage.
"It's been something I've been working on for my whole life. I'm bred to be a fighter," Fury said. "I'm a fighter so I will take on all challengers. I came here tonight, took the world title. Whatever happens next is a blessing. The interest in the next fight will be huge."
Klitschko, on the other hand, admitted that he was not himself during the fight, adding that Fury's four-inch reach advantage was the main factor that gave him trouble during the actual fight.
"The speed was missing," the 39-year old Ukrainian boxer said. "Reach played a big role. I tried but it didn't work. I saw my face in the mirror and it didn't look so nice. But that's boxing."
Fury now holds the WBO, WBA, and IBF world heavyweight titles, but will likely have a rematch against Klitschko. In another report by Sky Sports, Klitschko says he will be exercising the rematch clause on their pre-fight contract.
"There will be a rematch. It is still early and I have to process things but there will definitely be a rematch."
