'Wolfenstein 2' Twitter Post Disses Neo-Nazis, Holocaust Deniers

Bethesda Softwork's upcoming first-person action-adventure game "Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus" is currently involved in a controversial issue due to its classic storyline.

The eighth installment of the "Wolfenstein" video game series was accused of standing for the "anti-Trump" organizations. But game developer MachineGames addressed the accusation in a new post on the game's official Twitter account with a teaser that issued a warning to the Nazi sympathizers. The teaser came out with a caption saying, "There is only one side. #NoMoreNazis #Wolf2"

The tweet came during the time when American Neo-Nazi groups continue to march down the streets.

Game director Jens Matthies recently spoke with GameSpot to discuss how the upcoming game was caught in a political issue.

"That was definitely not something we anticipated," the game director stated to explain Wolfenstein 2's plot that centers on the Nazis-in-America affair as well as the recent political climate in the US. "We started writing the script in 2014 right after we released the first one. Somehow things have gotten strangely topical. Which of course is not something we anticipated or feel especially good about. That's the way it is, I guess."

On the other hand, Bethesda Software's marketing vice president Pete Hines explained in an interview on Rolling Stone how they worked with MachineGames to come up with a marketing scheme for the upcoming game.

According to Hines, they conducted an open dialogue with the game developers where they touched upon the political and social topics of the US. "We weren't going to hide from the fact our game is about killing Nazis and freeing the US from their rule, and if we can reference current events as part of talking about the game, so be it. Nazis are evil," the Bethesda executive stated. "We aren't afraid to remind people of that."

Despite the controversies surrounding "Wolfenstein 2," Hines revealed that they are very happy with the way the game gather interest from the market.

"Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus" is slated for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Friday, Oct. 27, while the Nintendo Switch edition will come out sometime in 2018.
