'Wonder Woman' Movie News: Movie About Wonder Woman's Origins Will Be Dark, Says Gal Gadot

After the many negative reactions that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" generated, it has been reported that upcoming DC movies of Warner Bros. will be more fun, in contrast to that of Zack Snyder's dark approach as manifested in the mentioned film. However, according to Gal Gadot, her upcoming "Wonder Woman" standalone film will still be dark.

While it is true that many consider the entry of Gadot's Wonder Woman role in the still showing "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" as the highlight of the film, no reference to her origin has ever been featured in the film. In the movie, Gadot showcases the might and female power that Wonder Woman is, but this may not be the case in the upcoming first-ever standalone big-screen feature of the Amazonian warrior princess.

"In Batman v Superman, you get a glimpse of who she is but not where she comes from. In Wonder Woman, this would be the first time we ever tell the coming-of-age story of how Diana becomes Wonder Woman. It's very interesting. It has moments of humour, but it's pretty dark," revealed Gadot in her interview with Digital Spy.

The actress said that the movie pushes back the character of Wonder Woman, aka Diana, in the past 100 years of her Amazonian life, back to the time when the Amazonian princess-turned-superhero still displays naivety and idealism that contrast her from her current reputation as a confident female warrior and superhero.

Gal Gadot's "Wonder Woman" movie is the first ever big screen live-action feature of the DC female superhero in its more than 75 years of existence. The last time Wonder Woman had a live-screen feature was in the '70s, via the hit television series "Wonder Woman," which catapulted actress Lynda Carter to global fame.

With Gadot saying that the upcoming movie will still have a dark tone in it, fans can only hope that it will not be as dark as that of Snyder's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which is pointed as one of the reasons why the movie stalled at the box office despite an impressively strong opening weekend.

"Wonder Woman" is scheduled for a June 2, 2017 showing, moving three weeks earlier than its originally slated release date of June 23, 2017.
