'Wonder Woman' Movie Update: Swedish MMA Fighter Madeleine Vall Plays Amazonian Lieutenant Egeria
Although filming for Gal Gadot's upcoming "Wonder Woman" movie has already wrapped up, many things about the movie that were previously unknown to fans continue to surface. While it is true that fans of the movie already know some things about the movie, especially its cast, it has only been revealed recently that Swedish MMA fighter Madeleine "Madde" Vall is actually part of "Wonder Woman" and plays the role of Egeria, one of the movie's Amazon warriors.
According to Comic Book, this news surfaced when Vall posted on her Instagram account a photo of her with a caption translated to English, saying that she had just come home from a location shoot of "Wonder Woman," and it was the last day of shooting.
Egeria is an Amazonian lieutenant who was created by writer George Perez. She first appeared in the "Wonder Woman" comic book Annual volume 2 #1 in 1988. In the comic book incarnation of the character, Egeria sacrificed her life to prevent the God of War, Ares, from escaping. However, with the production behind "Wonder Woman" tight-lipped on the plot of the story, it remains unknown if Egeria will be on the good or bad side.
It is widely believed, though, that Wonder Woman will have the World War I era as its primary backdrop, and scenes in Themyscira, the island nation of the Amazons, will only serve as flashbacks in the movie. However, there are also reports that "Wonder Woman" will be primarily set in the present times, allegedly just months before the events that happened in the already concluded "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."
According to a report of Joblo last year, though, Themyscira scenes will be used as flashbacks in the movie as Wonder Woman tells Steve Trevor how she first defeated the two main antagonists during World War I in the story, Ares and Circe, both of whom back in the present times and will be battled by the Amazonian Warrior Princess anew.
"Wonder Woman" hits the theaters on June 2, 2017.
