'Wonder Woman' Release Date, Plot Spoilers: Film Set During WWI, Will Not Feature Invisible Jet

Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) may have showed up in present time when she joined Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." However, her origin film, "Wonder Woman," will transport viewers back to World War I.

The film takes place in 1918, which is near the end of World War I. According to Mashable, the chosen time period is particularly interesting since most "Wonder Woman" storylines usually take place during the second World War.

And since the film is essentially an origin story of the Amazonian warrior princess, it has been revealed that it will start out in Themyscira, the fictional island where it all began. The movie will depict how Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman, came about--molded from clay by her mother and given life by Zeus.

Life in Themyscira is generally peaceful. But things change when German soldiers make their way to the island and go into battle with the Amazonian inhabitants. Themyscira is also where U.S. fighter pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crash-lands.

And while the film will feature Wonder Woman's lasso of truth and indestructible bracelets, it will not include the iconic invisible jet. However, that does not mean that it will stay out of the DC Extended Universe. There is always the possibility of featuring it in future films.

It is safe to say that "Wonder Woman" has been surrounded by so much hype ever since it was announced. Gadot herself has been contributing to the excitement as she continues to share photos on her Instagram page. A new trailer is also expected to drop soon.

Special screenings have also been conducted already, and fans who were lucky enough to get an early look at the film have been very positive in their feedback. Some even think that "Wonder Woman" could be DC's saving grace.

"Wonder Woman" will premiere in U.S. theaters on June 2.
