'Wonder Woman' Spoilers, Release Date, News: Origin Trailer Shows More Action and History

The film adaptation to DC's Extended Universe has been coasting along okay to bad, and the succeeding movies will need to be better than that. As such, it looks like "Wonder Woman" could be its shot at redemption, and the latest teaser gives all the more reason why fans are looking to it to turn things around.

In the recently released origin trailer, a young Diana is taken to a room that holds the "god killer," a legendary sword that she wields in the future in her action-packed years. Upon marveling at the beauty of the sword, her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), taunts her that she can't use it, perhaps to make her even more determined to be the best among the amazons.

She then is trained to her limits until such time she discovers her unimaginable power. Her life of training, however, draws to a halt when American pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crashes on their shores and tells them that the world is torn by war. The grown-up Diana (Gal Gadot) decides to leave the island along with the god killer to save mankind.

Immediately, fans have been praising the teaser for what it has shown thus far. Netizens are exclaiming that the movie needs not only be good but be brilliant. From what everyone is feeling, it appears the fate of the DC Extended Universe lies in Wonder Woman's hands.

What's noticeable in the trailer, however, is that there is no definitive villain to be revealed yet. It has been confirmed though by French magazine Studio Ciné Live that the god of war, Ares, is set to be the movie's main antagonist. The creation of a gas that could easily obliterate humans catches the fancy of Ares as he is jealous of mankind after his father, Zeus, created them.

"Wonder Woman" arrives with sword, shield and whip on June 2, 2017.
