World's Most Expensive Beauty Cream $13,000 Promises to Reduce Wrinkles (VIDEO)
What has been named the world's most expensive cream will go on sale in September for a shocking $13,000.
Cle de Peau Beaute will release a special edition moisturizer in September with a price tag upwards of $13,000 to mark the company's 30th year anniversary.
The moisturizing cream, which promises to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles of age, originally sells for $632 in stores for a 1.8 ounce package. The new cream however, will be specially packed and come in a 2-ounce container.
Referred to as "La Crème," the product will be sold by Cle de peau Beaute, which is a division of Shiseido. While the cosmetic line will be celebrating its 30th year anniversary, Shiseido will be commemorating it's 140th year. Originally opened in 1872 as a pharmacy company in Japan, Shiseido is the oldest cosmetic company in the world and the fourth largest.
The expensive cream owes more than half of its price to the special packaging.
"The moisturizer reportedly comes encased in 30 layers of crystal and will be housed in handmade jars topped with three platinum rings," Yahoo reported adding that "the luxury moisturizer is five times more expensive per gram than gold"
A very limited edition, only three bottles of the cream will be sold in the special packaging. Actress Amanda Seyfried has been selected to promote the new edition.
"As the exciting embodiment of luminous sophistication and natural radiance, Amanda Seyfried captures the very essence of Cle de Peau Beaute. She is pure of heart, vibrantly alive, and brings joy to the lives of others," the company website said of the actress.
According to a spokesman for the company, a limited edition product is usually a limited event at Cle de Peau Beaute.
"We do not usually make limited editions of our products, but this is to mark a special occasion for the Cle de Peau Beaute line," spokesman Megumi Kinukawa said in a statement. "We hope it will appeal to our loyal customers and people who are interested in gorgeous brands."
