'WWE' 2016 Rumors: Brock Lesnar vs The Rock at WrestleMania 33? Paul Heyman Calls Out WWE Legend

Brock Lesnar had his share of controversy over the past months, and had been linked to several big names for huge potential battles. WrestleMania 33 is still over half a year away, but the rumor mill is already brewing possible matchups for Lesnar in WWE's flagship event.

One such possibility pits him against "the most electrifying. An altercation between the two had been teased this week, and should The Rock return to competition soon, the dream match might become a reality.

Lesnar had been riding a mean streak over the past months, issuing challenges and inciting rumors around the WWE. His last bout vs. Randy Orton created controversy, as it ended with a brutal finish.

The Beast Incarnate vs. The Viper at SummerSlam 2016 had been decided to end in a false finish, with Lesnar spilling Orton's blood in the process. Lesnar did his job, but it was questionable whether or not he got carried away. Orton received a cut to the head that needed 10 staples to close, and a concussion that ruled him out of his matchup vs. Bray Wyatt at Backlash 2016.

Prior to SummerSlam and in its aftermath, Lesnar and his official advocate, Paul Heyman, had been calling out multiple wrestlers to try their luck against him. One that generated a huge buzz was his challenge to Bill Goldberg, which he issued in a WWE 2K17 promotion video. Goldberg had since responded by ripping and blowing his nose on a Lesnar shirt.

He had also called out Connor McGregor, who had been insulting him and the wrestling business over the past months. But in the same interview, he and Heyman dropped a bigger bomb—a challenge vs. The Rock.

The People's Champion

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has had an illustrious WWE career, eventually hanging his hat to pursue the film industry. He had since returned in 2011, feuding with John Cena and making occasional appearances in PPVs last year.

He had faced Lesnar 14 years ago in SummerSlam 2002, when Lesnar defeated the People's Champ to get his first world championship in his rookie year. Heyman took advantage of The Rock's current status, questioning his bouts with Wyatt and Cena and his "readiness" to face Lesnar.

A returning run for The Rock is reportedly being teased by the WWE, and, if it does happen, his match vs. Lesnar is rumored to take place at the grandest stage of them all—WrestleMania 33.
