WWE 2016 Rumors: Chris Jericho Leaving WWE After Hell in a Cell? Possible Y2J Run for Universal Title in the Works

Vince McMahon's blueprint of what makes a real wrestler or superstar has always been a fatal flaw. He favors the big, muscular guys who may or may not be great in-ring technicians, but look good on posters and sound good on the mic.

With that said, some of the great in-ring technicians actually managed to fuel themselves to supremacy in the WWE Universe, capitalizing on their underdog or sneaky natures. The most recent triumph is that of Daniel Bryan, who conquered eight months of hell vs. The Authority to win the WWE Championship to a huge crowd pop.

Probably the greatest stories, however, is that of Chris Jericho. At a much smaller height than his competitors, Y2J always had tricks up in his sleeve, becoming an ace both between the ropes and on the microphone.

The Gift of Jericho

"The Gift of Jericho" Era turned into the greatest run in Jericho's long, illustrious career and that is saying something. Y2J has had some of the best promos in WCW and WWE history, and he had revived his iconic "1,004 holds" promo with his recent "list" of things he hated about Mick Foley.

Jericho is a constantly evolving character and his grit, both in and out of the ring, looks to have earned him more than a kayfabe talk show. Last month after SummerSlam, Jericho reportedly confronted Brock Lesnar over his brutal match with Randy Orton. Vince McMahon apparently took notice of Jericho "standing up for himself" and may grant him a final championship run.

Rumor has it that Jericho will be inserted to the Universal Championship picture, a title currently held by Kevin Owens. Jericho had played Owen's best friend, even helping KO defend his belt vs. Seth Rollins at Clash of Champions. Having his best heel run in ages, Jericho betraying Owens for a shot at the gold will be the cherry on top of this story.

Departure?

Jericho is now 45 years old and is in the twilight of his WWE career. Rumor has it that while he might get a shot at the title at WWE Hell in a Cell, he might also leave the company soon after to focus on his band, Fozzy.

It was initially rumored that Jericho's last run would not end until 2017, but at the time, the Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla did not plan on releasing a new record. Fozzy will reportedly be releasing an album soon, thus, the rumors of Jericho leaving earlier.
