WWE 2K18 To Feature KFC's Colonel Sanders As Playable Character

A new superstar is coming to WWE 2K18 and he's someone every wrestling fan knows deep inside, their stomach that is. Yes, the wrestling video game will feature KFC's iconic founder Colonel Harland Sanders as a playable character, and no, he's not replacing the steel chair with fried chicken.

The news was announced during a stunt at WWE's "Hell in a Cell" pay-per-view event. In it, Kurt Angle dressed up as the Colonel and went up against WWE Superstar Heath Slater, who was dressed as the Colonel's arch-rival, Puppers Cluckers Chicken.

While the Colonel is included in the game's roster of wrestlers per se, he can be accessed via the game's Create-a-Superstar Mode. This can be done by putting on the Colonel's iconic white facial hair and white shirt, minus the sleeves of course. Players who pre-order the game will also gain access to two versions of Angle.

There's still no statement regarding the addition of the KFC mascot to the game. One possible explanation could be a cross-promotion between both companies. After all, the WWE 2K series has been a top-seller for years.

This could help the fast food chain reach out to both gaming and wrestling fans, that is, if they haven't already been lured by the Colonel's secret recipe. The WWE and KFC have had an advertising partnership for a while with superstars like Dolph Ziggler dressing up as the Colonel for ads played during WWE shows.

For the third installment in a row, the roster will be the largest included in the series at launch. All versions of the game with the exception of the Nintendo Switch will be able to support up to eight wrestlers in the ring. The Switch version will be able to hold six like in earlier games.

WWE 2K18 will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Oct. 17 with the Nintendo Switch version to follow this fall.
