WWE News and Rumors 2016: 'Wheels Are In Motion' for Bill Goldberg's Return

Brock Lesnar could get the fight of his life

The WWE rumor mill had always been abuzz with potential return of past superstars. The surprising reappearances of Shawn Michaels, The Rock and Kevin Nash in recent history had always been a delight to true-blue wrestling fans.

However, the past few months had been packed with possibilities shaking the wrestling community. On one end, a SmackDown Live confrontation with The Miz may bring back Daniel Bryan from a career-ending injury.

On the other, the All-American veteran Kurt Angle might be getting one final run with the company that launched him to stardom. Amid all of these, however, there is one household name who continues to emanate from crowd chants despite a long hiatus.

Bill Goldberg had been teasing his return for quite a while now, recently allowing WWE and 2K Games to include him in the upcoming WWE 2K17 title. The former WCW and WWE champion is playable exclusively in the pre-order edition of the game.

'The wheels are in motion'

Following his appearance in the new WWE game, Goldberg had been hot and cold on the notion of an in-ring return. In a SportingNews interview on August 24, the wrestling legend opened up about the possibility.

At 49 years old, the man is tremendously fit for athletic competition. He had been training in Muay Thai five days a week, and still craves the physicality he endured almost effortlessly in the pro-wrestling circuit.

However, Goldberg also said the ball is not in his court, but in WWE's. He said he would still be satisfied with his career should he be denied the opportunity. That may be about the change.

When TMZ last caught up with the superstar, Goldberg's stance on the rumors seemed to have softened. He said the clock is ticking on him and he had done away with past differences. An insider source dropped an even bigger bomb after that, saying "the wheels are in motion" in terms of Goldberg returning and talks with WWE.

A final run

While it is yet to be confirmed, there is no better time for Goldberg to return than now. There a host of young and old stars he had been waiting to get his hands on, and they can turn out to be interesting storylines.

Goldberg reportedly pointed to rising superstar Seth Rollins and his long-time idol, The Undertaker. But neither of these matches are as anticipated as his confrontation with The Beast, Brock Lesnar.

The most dominant superstar in the WWE had recently called Goldberg out in a WWE 2K17 promotional video, telling him the famous line, "You're Next." Goldberg had since addressed Lesnar, raising rumors of tension between the two.

Goldberg and Lesnar had a feud twelve years ago that culminated in a disappointing match at WrestleMania XX, but there is much reason to redeem that story. Lesnar is being promoted as the most fearsome competitor in the WWE today, refusing to lose to anyone, even The Undertaker. Goldberg has had his share of dominant streaks, reaching an official WCW number of 173-0, including a victory against the Hulk Hogan.

These two superstars' collision is the best possible angle for a Goldberg return, and if it does happen, this might just be a preview to the upcoming WrestleMania 33.
