WWE 'Night of Champions' 2015 Roundup and Bout-By-Bout Results
Yesterday, September 20, the Toyota Center in Houton, Texas hosted this year's WWE Night of Champions. The event, which was touted to top the SummerSlam, highlighted five WWE most coveted titles vied by the returning legends, upcoming NXT superstars, as well as members of the current fighter's roster.
Below is the roundup and bout-by-bout recap for the ninth Night of Champions.
Citing Yahoo! Sports, Geordie boy Neville joined Luchas Kalisto and Sin Cara in a kickoff six-man tag team match against Stardust and his Ascension partners Konnor and Victor, who were now performing under the new banner, Cosmic Wasteland. The site predicted that the match will go to the latter and it was true. Cosmic Wasteland won the match.
The next match was a WWE Intercontinental Championship match between Ryback and Kevin Owens and it was also set to rock the house. The site speculated that Ryback "The Big Guy" wouldn't be able to hold on to the belt from the former NXT champ who, in the past, had wowed the crowd with his "surprisingly agile skills" against John Cena. The prediction turned out to be true as Kevin Owens defeated Ryback and becoming the new WWE Intercontinental Champion.
After an announcement by Paul Heyman regarding Brock Lesnar's "Got to Hell" tour and the Brock Lesnar-Undertaker "Hell in a Cell" fight on October 25, the second match began. It was a match between Dolph Ziggler and Rusev w/ Summer Rae. Summer Rae interferes in the match and is ejected. Dolph wins the match by performing the Zig Zag on Rusev.
The third match had The New Day, comprising of Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, up to defend the title against the newly-reunited Dudley Boyz in the WWE Tag Team Championship match. The Dudley Boyz won but unfortunately, it was via disqualification so the title remains with The New Day.
The fourth match was for the WWE Divas Championship. Since taking the belt from AJ Lee, Nikki Bella was the longest reigning WWE Divas champion. However, the challenger, Charlotte, won the match and the title by using the figure eight on Nikki and forcing her to tap into submission. Charlotte's father, Ric Flair, celebrated with his daughter.
Fans were certainly surprised by who the guest fighter in the Roman Reigns-Dean Ambrose trio turned out to be. It turned out to be Chris Jericho as he joined Reigns and Ambrose in a six-man Tag Team match against The Wyatt Family + Braun Strowman. Although the match was predicted to belong to the Reigns-Ambrose-Mystery Guest team, the other team won when Strowman had Jericho in a submission finisher move and Jericho, after trying to fight his way out, had to tap out.
It was a busy night for Seth Rollins who was slated to defend two titles - one against John Cena for the WWE United States Championship Match and the other from "The Icon" Sting in a WWE World Heavy Weight Championship bout. Cena was seen to be more than willing to retake the belt, which he did by using the Attitude Adjustment on Rollins to win.
Sting, on the other hand, was not able to succeed in his campaign. Although it looked as though he would win after using a Scorpion Death Lock, Seth Rollins turned the tables by rolling Sting up and getting the three count he needed to win the match.
Afterwards, it looked as though Sheamus would be cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase but Kane with the Mask stopped that from happening by chokeslamming both Sheamus and Rollins.
Stay tuned for more updates.
