WWE Rumors: Will Upcoming 'TLC' PPV Feature a Reunited Shield?

Shield reunion may take place to help boost ticket sales

It has been more than three years since the immensely popular faction known as The Shield imploded. And since then, more than a few WWE fans have been fantasizing about a potential reunion.

Now, a new rumor is hinting that fans may finally be getting the reunion they have long been looking for.

Over on Twitter, James McKenna, senior news producer for Pro Wrestling Sheet, recently passed along a rumor that has apparently been going around.

According to the rumor, next month's "TLC" pay-per-view is about to get a "MAJOR card upgrade." McKenna did not mention it directly, but the GIF included in the tweet certainly seemed to suggest that The Shield will be involved in the PPV in some way.

Interestingly enough, a segment on the most recent episode of "Monday Night RAW" included a mention of The Shield.

The segment in question featured current Intercontinental Champion The Miz talking to Roman Reigns, one of the former members of The Shield.

At around the 2:30 mark of the segment, The Miz referenced Reigns' involvement in The Shield and even mentioned the faction by name not long after.

Earlier this year, the WWE also put up a poll asking fans to select which faction they would like to see return, and unsurprisingly, The Shield garnered the most votes.

The WWE referencing The Shield was not necessarily a big deal, but that the promotion has opted to do so at this point in time was very interesting.

Many wrestling fans are well aware that the folks over at the WWE want Reigns to be the top guy in the company. Thus far, however, fans have been resistant to that.

Putting Reigns back in The Shield and having him team up again with the faction's other former members – Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins – would likely help get more fans on his side.

The people in WWE's creative team do not even have to do much to set up The Shield reunion.

The Miz is backed up by The Miztourage – made up of Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel – and that means Reigns is outnumbered. If The Shield reunited though, the sides will then be equal.

So does this mean that fans can count on seeing a reunited Shield show up at "TLC?"

Going back to the video above, Reigns himself may have pointed out the exact reasons for why a Shield reunion may not happen. He indicated that his focus right now is on winning the Universal Championship, while noting that Ambrose and Rollins are busy with something else.

At this specific point in time, there are clear and distinct directions the decision-makers at the WWE can take with regards to a potential Shield reunion.

If they really wanted to, a Shield vs. Miztourage bout would be easy to set up for "TLC," but if they deem it too early to reunite the faction, then a Reigns vs. Miz match for the Intercontinental Title at the PPV would make plenty of sense as well.

A "Shield" reunion is not guaranteed to happen currently, but the path to it looks clearer now.
